Sylvester Is Staying In For Winter 2012

Winter is all about staying in. Cuddling up on the couch, reading poetry and drinking cups of tea – ask any Frankie reader and they’ll tell you. One of our favourite New Zealand designers, Kate Sylvester, has tapped into the art of staying in for her Sylvester AW12 collection.

Slyvester is Kate’s sister line – younger and naughtier. For Winter, the Sylvester line takes its cues from the early Seventies: preppy striped polo’s with matching pencil skirts, paisley frills, sheer floral blouses and cardigans with elbow patches. The references bring to mind Ang Lee’s 1997 drama The Ice Storm, set during a bleak Connecticut Winter in 1973. Like the movie, the beautiful campaign imagery shot and styled by Karen Inderbitzen-Waller is set inside amidst even more references to the era. Hello, pretty yellow wallpaper…
