PETA Crash Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

We agree with their animal-friendly ideals but at times their execution leaves something to be desired. Such was the case at MSFW last night when protestors from PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals) targeted Sydney based designer Rachel Gilbert. Though no fur was used in Gilbert’s collection (she has used fur in the past) protestors crashed the runway midway through her show, brandishing placards which read “Rachel Gilbert: Animal Killer”, and shouting the mantra “Fur is dead”. We weren’t at the show but Sydney based Fashion Hayley summed up the furor today on her blog: “They walked up and down the runway shouting “Fur is Dead” over and over, stopping the show while security worked out a way to end the protest peacefully. Audience members booed and front row fashion identities yelled out insults to the protesters…”
