Pedestrian Road Tests Samsung’s Galaxy Note II Smartphone

Expand your creative horizons with the Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone. Samsung’s latest entrant into the Australian smartphone market features an intuitive S Pen stylus, immersive 5.5”
high definition screen, 1.60GHz quad core processor, innovative multitasking functionality and national 4G compatibility affording access to ultra-high internet speeds when it is
connected through compatible mobile service providers. We road tested the Note II
not only for personal use but for its real world applications around the office. Here’s how it fared.

Ash: I guess the most impressive thing here is the ability to multi-task – and we mean that in the truest sense of the word – tending to multiple tasks on the same screen at the same time with no screen transitions. Something which opens up a whole new world of possibilities when you take into account the phone’s S Pen stylus and S Note features. This is particularly useful when interviewing people. A few weeks ago I used it to interview Melbourne-based writer Marieke Hardy, serving as both a recording device and my own virtual notepad to mark out and make notes on key points throughout the conversation. Elsewhere, you can do things like research something in a browser and compose an email relating to that topic without switching screens. Or watch a movie trailer and take notes. Or compose an email and browse photos. Again, all on the exact same screen. There are just so many situations where this would be useful. I kinda wish all phones did that.

Suz: Maybe size does matter. This thing has a ridiculous 5.5″ high definition Super AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting
Diode) screen. Which basically means the screen turns off the black pixels to create richer blacks, higher contrast between colours and a more enriching viewing experience that won’t chew up your battery life. Everything from watching videos, taking photos and browsing websites suddenly becomes a bit more vibrant and engaging. Here we’re taking a photo of our Weekend Editor Nick to post to Instagram. As you can see, it be poppin’.

Tom: One of the coolest things about this phone is its crazy processing power. It features a 1.60GHz Quad Core Processor combined with the Android™ 4.1
Jelly Bean operating system which means faster
online browsing, a smoother user interface and the ability to multi-task across two different apps in the same window. We tested the latter when taking notes on the new Iron Man 3 trailer. It’s great for taking notes on the fly, with the option to input standard text on a keyboard or freestyle with a stylus and draw diagrams, make notes on existing text or just plot something out which can only be rendered by hand. It’s the back of a napkin 2.0. and it’s pretty fricken’ awesome.

But enough about us. Here’s how James Franco and Alexander Wang use it.
