Kings X Coke Sign Sells For $100K, With All Proceeds Goin’ To Ppl In Need

From being the overseer of projectile vomit on Bayswater Rd to a highly-prized artefact: Sydney‘s iconic Kings X Coca-Cola has officially metamorphosed, going under the hammer for a cool $100,700.
The five-day Ebay auction – all proceeds of which go to another Kings X icon, the Wayside Chapel, which has been helping those in need for than 50 years – exceeded all expectations when it closed at 8pm last night.

The folks over at Coke say the successful bidders hail not only from Aussie cities, but international ones.
“We’ll have to wait and see over coming days to find out exactly who the lucky winners are and where the letters have found a new home, but we do know there have been bidders from not only from Sydney, but around Australia and the world,” said Roberto Mercadé, President of Coca-Cola South Pacific.
The most popular letter was the *little* ‘C’, which sold for $18,700 (we would have gone for the big ones, tbh, but it’d be a tough asking fitting them in your apartment – scale below).
Here’s a full breakdown of what each letter went for at auction:
C sold for $10,300
O sold for $12,700
C sold for $18,700
A sold for $12,700
C sold for $10,300
O sold for $12,700
L sold for $10,600
A sold for $12,700
For those fretting about the loss of the old sign, FEAR NOT: one that looks almost exactly the same is already in place, only it’s been given an environmentally friendly makeover (the 800 neon lights that’ve been there since 1974 have been replaced with halogens).

There will be a grand ‘ol ‘switching on’ ceremony this Thursday eve (September 13) at 6.30pm, so stop by if you’re in the area to witness a lil’ piece of history.
If you missed it, we paid our respects to the OG sign by cracking a tinnie at the top-secret warehouse location in which it was held prior to the auction for Snapchat (add PEDESTRIAN.TV for more good stuff).
