Heck, when you push out some spawn of your own, Sundays will no doubt involve a trip to IKEA just for the meatballs. Them juicy, juicy meatballs.
Apart from being a cornerstone of domestic life, IKEA’s also a place of innovation.
They’ve brought out a whole range of festival gear, a bloody bicycle with a 25 year warranty and now, they’ve launched a flat-pack vertical garden.
The Growroom is an invention by Space10, IKEA’s dedicated innovation lab. It’s a big ass spherical garden you can grow plants, veggies and ‘erbs in:
“SPACE10 envision a future, where we grow our own food much more locally,” reads their website.“To spark conversations about how we can bring nature back into our cities, grow our own food and tackle the rapidly increasing demand for significantly more food in the future, we teamed up with architects Sine Lindholm and Mads-Ulrik Husum to create The Growroom. Standing tall as a spherical garden, it empowers people to grow their own food much more locally in a beautiful and sustainable way.”
The orb is designed so that each plants cop water and light but the little human who sits inside won’t get wet. Like a zenned out cubby for adults. It’s made entirely from plywood and is assembled in 17 ‘easy’ steps. IKEA don’t sell the plywood pieces just yet, so you’d need to get them cut. The template complete with build instructions are available to download for free this month, though.
