Normally one to keep her personal life close to her chest, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Sara Ramirez has v. casually come out as bisexual in a speech she made at a LGBT youth homelessness conference in Hollywood over the weekend.
Speaking to an audience of hundreds, Sara – who plays the awesomely feisty Dr. Callie Torres – told the crowd:
“Because of the intersections that exist in my own life – woman, multi-racial woman, woman of colour, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish-American immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican and Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support in our youth owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.”
Sara was invited to speak by True Colours Fund – a tip-top advocacy group co-founded by Cyndi Lauper that works to end homelessness amongst LGBT youth.
She’s been married to her partner, Ryan DeBolt, for two years, and has previously copped shit for being a straight person representing a LGBT character. But that hasn’t let that stop her from supporting various LGBT advocacy and support groups.
