We already know that there will be unsimulated sex scenes (essentially where the “top half” of sex scenes will be the actors, the “bottom half” will be sexy stunt doubles) and that Uma Thurman gets creepy, accusatory and vengeful about her husband’s affair.
Following on from the success and achingly beauty of Melancholia, Nymphomaniac strays from Lars Von Trier’s raw and stripped back Dogma days, with a hollywood cast that will make (and already has made) this film huge.
To provide an awful segue, the now released promo posters and weapon of marketing genius display suitably huge O faces of its gorgeous cast. From Charlotte Gainsbourg gasping for air, Uma Thurman luxuriating in what we can only assume is a post-coital glow, to Jamie Bell just looking kind of angry, there’s little left to the imagination in these disarmingly beautiful portraits. The cruel exception is, of course, Shia LaBœuf Bourguignon who is either excruciatingly bored or just hard to please.
