Competition Seeks To End Tyranny Of Terrible Miss Australia Costumes

Realising the folly of representing Australia with high-heeled Ugg boots and hallucinogenic bridal wear, Miss Universe Australia (the organisation, not the person) has launched the inaugural National Costume design competition to find the “perfect gown” for current Miss Australia Renae Ayris to wear during December’s 2012 Miss Universe pageant.

Here’s how they describe it: “In November 2012, a national competition will be staged where young, upcoming and established designers will compete to design this coveted costume. All entrants will be put in front of a judging panel with the final 4 costumes being photographed, modeled and televised nationally. For the first time ever, the public audience will vote for the costume that they believe will best represent Australia at the Miss Universe event, which attracts a television audience of over a billion people.”

FYI this is what last year’s costume looked like. At the time we said Scherri-Lee Biggs looked like she was being eaten by a water colour painting.

We can do better than this right? YES! WE! CAN!
