Dimitrious Gargasoulas, the man accused of running down pedestrians in the horrific Bourke Street attack, will face an additional murder charge, Victoria police said on Thursday.
The 26-year-old is already facing five murder charges and will face a sixth “in due course,” said assistant commissioner Stephen Fontana today.
Six people lost their lives in the tragedy: 33-year-old Matthew Si, 22-year-old Jess Mudie, 10-year-old Thalia Hakin, 33-year-old Bhavita Patel, three-month-old Zachary Bryant, and a 25-year-old Japanese national.
Of the 37 people taken to hospital, three still remain there, one in a critical condition.
Fontana said that “other proposed charges include attempted murder, conduct endangering life and other related offences. These will be consolidated and presented to him at a later date once we have finished obtaining most of the witness statements.”
Gargasoulas is due to face court on August 1.
