Accused Bourke St Attacker James Gargasoulas Charged W/ 5 Counts Of Murder

The 26-year-old Windsor man accused of driving into a crowd at Bourke St Mall last Friday, James “Jimmy” Gargasoulas aka Dimitrious Gargasoulas, has been charged with five counts of murder.
The charges come after Gargasoulas faced questioning at Melbourne West police station on Spencer Street this morning, after which he was supposed to be moved to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court. However, Gargasoulas reportedly did not make it to court, as his lawyer said he was unwell.
With fifteen people still in hospital, two of whom are in a critical condition, police say more charges are pending. Gargasoulas’s lawyer did not apply for bail.
The prosecutor has requested nine months to pull the police brief together, saying this was a “complicated matter”.
Accordingly, the magistrate has put down a special, preliminary mention date for August 1st; a full mention has not been scheduled until December 15th, eight weeks after the full police brief is due. Gargasoulas is only required to appear via video link on these dates.
Reportedly, Gargasoulas was on bail at the time of the incident, which has subsequently sparked a push to amend Victoria’s bail system. He has spent most of the weekend in hospital after being shot in the arm by police.
