‘Strayan Legend Jason Day Finally Cracks The Big One, Takes Out US PGA Championship

‘Strayan golfer Jason Day has finally won the big one.

The 27 year-old Queenslander has frequently played the role of bridesmaid at major tournaments this year, often finding himself at the top of the leaderboard only to fall away in the last round and have more fancied rivals storm home.
But not today.
With a measured final approach to the 18th green, Day calmly slotted a par putt to cement his place in history as the winner of the 2015 US PGA Championship.
Day started the final round two shots clear of second place Jordan Spieth, and from the opening tee shot didn’t look like giving up that lead. A blistering 18 of the Whistling Straits course in Wisconsin saw Day record a final round of 67 – 5 under par – to take his overall tournament score to a staggering 20 under par, the most under par score in the tournament’s history.
Day’s tournament overall was a picture of consistency; he was the only player in the tournament to break 70 on all four rounds.
In winning the tournament, Day becomes the first Australian to take out the US PGA in 20 years, having last been won by Steve Elkington in 1995.
The second place Spieth now also moves up the rankings to become the new World Number One, surpassing Rory McIlroy, whose disappointing 17th place finish in the PGA tournament knocks him from his world’s best mantle, where he had previously reigned for 53 weeks.
For Day, the tournament win cements his place as one of the elite golfers in the world, and nabs him a cool US$1.8million winners cheque.
Onya, legend!
