21 Year-Old Jordan Spieth Smashes The Field To Take Out US Masters

American young gun Jordan Spieth casually equalled a record set by Tiger Woods in 1997 to take out the 2015 US Masters in a canter over much more tenured and fancied rivals.

Spieth tapped in a bogey on the last hole of the tournament to win the prestigious Green Jacket for the first time in his young professional career, blitzing his way through to finish with an 18 under par 270. The score equals the tournament record, matching the bar set by Tiger Woods during his first victorious trip to Augusta back in 1997. The dropped shot on the final hole meant Spieth narrowly missed out on breaking the record outright.
Speith’s final round began with a four shot lead over Englishman Justin Rose, and a pair of matching 2 under par rounds meant that margin would remain the final gap between the pair, with veteran Phil Mickelson‘s round of 3 under moving him up into equal second place with Rose.
Spieth’s victory in the Masters had seemed all but a forgone conclusion from the start; opening with a blistering first two rounds of 8 and 6 under respectively, placing him seven shots clear of the men who would eventually place second behind him.
The man who took out the 2014 Australian Open also became the first player ever to shoot more than 25 birdies during a Masters tournament, holing six on the final day alone to take him above that lofty mark.
Spieth’s comparisons to Woods’ first victory are numerous – in winning, Spieth becomes the second youngest player to ever wear the Green Jacket, behind only Woods who was a mere matter of months younger when he first triumphed in ’97.
Full credit to him though, Spieth used his victory remarks to declare he was not even remotely through, stating he intends to emulate fellow American pro Bubba Watson and win two Masters tournaments.
Spieth currently sits fourth on the World PGA Rankings, one place behind Watson, and just above Australian pair Jason Day and Adam Scott.
