St Kilda FC Slam Sam Newman’s Deeply Unfunny Transphobic Bit As “No Joke”

Sam Newman‘s got about as much appeal as a soggy Savoy, and yet here we are, continuing to give the geezer airtime.
Airtime he uses to dehumanise, humiliate and exclude basically anyone who’s not straight, white and male.
Earlier today we wrote about his antics on the Footy Show‘s post-Origin II special last night, where he made jokes about transgender celebrity Caitlyn Jenner during a segment which mocked up game day banners for the St Kilda Football Club, one which portrayed Jenner as Newman’s lookalike.
Co-host, Billy Brownless, asked Newman if he knew who Caitlyn is, to which Newman replied “I know who he…it is. I do.”
Newman followed up by saying “Oh well what is she? Is it a ‘he’ or a ‘she’? Still got the bloody…” before being cut off by Rebecca Maddern, who pointed out that Caitlyn is a woman:

Now St Kilda Football Club have come out to condemn Newman’s tired commentary in a scathing statement which confirms the obvious, that “comedy at the expense of transgender people is no joke.”

CEO Matt Finnis said that “calling out behaviour that demeans others is necessary to ensure as an industry we are contributing to stamping out issues such as homophobia and transphobia.
