Rabbitoh Tom Burgess Follows Jarryd Hayne, Works Out With NFL’s NY Giants

English prop and member of the 2014 South Sydney Premiership side, Tom Burgess apparently has his eyes set on following the path trodden in by Jarryd Hayne in making an attempt at crossing over to American Football and the NFL.

It’s been revealed that Burgess – the twin brother of George and younger brother of Sam – has been spending time in the US recently, working out with the NFL’s New York Giants at their training facility in New Jersey.
Burgess suited up as a Tight End with the Giants in a trial that took place overnight Australian time – Burgess’ physical attributes have drawn comparisons to New England Patriots behemoth Rob Gronkowski. At 196cm tall and 120kg, Tom Burgess has exactly the kind of frame, physicality, and agility the NFL tends to look for.
The Rabbitohs released a statement confirming they gave Burgess permission to tryout with the Giants, stating it was an opportunity for Burgess to expand his skill set.

“The South Sydney Rabbitohs can confirm that Thomas Burgess has been given the opportunity to develop his skills by participating in NFL training during his off-season break.”

“The Rabbitohs value Thomas’ desire to be the best professional athlete he can be and support his endeavour.”

“The Club can confirm that Thomas Burgess is contracted to the Rabbitohs until the end of the 2018 season.”

Burgess is expected to suit up for the Bunnies for the 2016 season. But a clause in his contract leaves the door ajar for a switch in codes in 2017, should Burgess choose to attempt the transition.
