NRL Player Loses Battle With Cancer At 23

Parramatta Eels forward Jon Mannah passed away overnight after a long battle with cancer. The 23-year-old brother of fellow Eel and Blues front-rower Tim Mannah was first diagnosed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2009. In one of the the NRL’s great feel-good stories, Mannah overcame his cancer and capped a remarkable recovery by debuting for the Cronulla Sharks, playing 24 games in the 2011 season.

Returning to the Eels to play alongside his brother, Mannah tragically relapsed at the start of last season without playing a game. Mannah was an extremely popular figure across the NRL on account of his inspiring comeback and tireless work with cancer patients.

The Parramatta Eels issued this short statement via Twitter this morning.

“The Parramatta Eels send their heartfelt condolences to the Mannah
family after the passing of 23 year old Jon overnight. Such a sad loss.”
