NRL Player Jarryd Hayne Is Being Investigated Over Alleged Sexual Assault

Former Parramatta Eels player Jarryd Hayne is under investigation by the NSW Sex Crimes Squad for an alleged sexual assault on grand final night this year, Channel Nine reports.

The sexual assault reportedly occurred September 30 when he and a woman he had been messaging over social media met up in the Hunter region.

Her family has said that she went to a doctor after the alleged assault, and that she has photographic evidence of the injuries she suffered.

NSW Police issued a statement to Channel Nine:

Police are investigating following reports a woman was sexually assaulted by a 30-year-old man in late September. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad. No further information is available at this time.

The NRL Integrity Unit have interviewed the woman, but have told Nine that the incident is a police matter.

Hayne is currently facing a civil case in the US, accused of rape during his time playing NFL for the San Francisco 49ers in 2015-16. He has denied these allegations.

Jarryd Hayne is currently not signed to any club for the 2019 NRL season, but had been offered a spot with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

No charges have yet been laid.
