Edmonton has become the promised land for neglected wives and girlfriends with the National Hockey League (NHL) lock-out forcing frustrated fans to spend more time with their partners. And by time, I mean quality time. And by quality time, I mean having heaps and heaps of sex!
As a result local retailers have noted a significant spike in the sale of sex toys and lingerie. “When (Edmonton) Oilers fans – mostly guys – have to break their routine of seeing every game, they have more time,” said Vinay Morker, owner of the Hush Lingerie and More boutique “And there’s nothing better than spending it with your spouse or girlfriend.”
Morker said his south Edmonton location saw a 15 percent increase in sales in October customers investing in sex toys, lingerie, games and sexual guides, like The Kama Sutra.
Sex shop owners can expect the boom to last a little while longer with the stand-off between NHL owners and players set to continue. Forget the players, forget the fans, with an ongoing competition freeze, who’s thinking of the cheerleaders!
