Megan Washington Set To Perform At The Historic Inaugural AFLW Grand Final

Despite the AFL‘s spectacular balls-up in somehow allowing Adele and a crotchety groundskeeper to prevent the Brisbane Lions from hosting the first-ever AFLW Grand Final at the GABBA, the season-deciding clash between the Lions and the Adelaide Crows will remain a particularly special day in the history of Australian sport (even if it is being held on the Gold Coast and as the curtain raiser to not only an AFLM game but a 2nd-tier men’s clash as well).
The Crows and the Lions have clearly been the class of the women’s league’s debut year, and the game looms as an absolute cracker.
The AFL is going out of its way to ensure the clash feels like a fully fledged, historically important Grand Final, and that includes forking out for premium pre-game entertainment.
The league has signed up soulful siren Megan Washington to perform prior to the game, where she will be belting out the national anthem just prior to the opening bounce.
Washington confirmed her appearance on social media a short time ago.

That last quip I refute adamantly because a good bottle of bitey shiraz can be a whole dang event.

The teams are in south-east Queensland, and have been fronting media today for photo opportunities with the prizes on offer: The AFLW Premiership Cup, the Premiership rings and medallions, and the medal for Best on Ground in tomorrow’s game.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 12:55pm QLD time (1:55pm AEDST), with Channel Seven providing extensive live coverage.
