Lydia Lassila Adds Another Medal To Australia’s Tally And Takes Home Bronze

The defending Olympic champion Lydia Lassila has won a bronze medal in the final of the freestyle skiing ladies’ aerials in Sochi.

She did so by attempting the most difficult aerial ever attempted by a woman at the Olympics, a quad-twisting triple somersault. Something that is probably just as difficult as it sounds. She landed hard and could not stay on her skis, but that was enough to come in third place.

“I didn’t have the easiest of days, but I went for broke … It’s all or nothing – that’s how I approach everything.”

Lassila could have gone for an easier jump, but instead she showed some serious balls and went for something incredibly risky that would have secured a gold medal. Coming away with bronze in a scenario like that is something to be damn proud of.
