‘Grand Final Day Eve’ Is Now Officially A Public Holiday In Victoria

Victoria, being the ridiculously AFL-lovin’ state that it is, has been grappling with this decision for a while now. Doth the Grandest Day of the Sporting Year truly deserve an official day of civilian relaxation?

FARKEN OATH, MATE.
It’s just been approved that every Victorian will be granted a public holiday on October 2nd, the day before the AFL Grand Final.
Small Business Minister Philip Dalidakis announced the new public holiday today, saying “Grand final Friday presents itself as a great opportunity to celebrate Australia’s national game and spend more time with our family, friends and loved ones.”
Well, Melbourne was already topping the ‘Most Liveable City’ list, and now they get a public holiday just to prepare for the Grand Final, rather than having to chuck a sickie like the rest of the country – lucky Victorian buggers.
And doesn’t Premier Daniel Andrews just know it. After the NSW Premier Mike Baird had a cheeky dig at Victoria’s distinct lack of harbours and sunshine earlier this month, Andrews decided to reeeeeally rub it in.
Cool your jets, gents. Cool your goddamn jets.
