David Warner Smashes His Way To The Allan Border Medal For 2016

David Warner has taken out the Allan Border Medal tonight in Melbourne, filling the spot left by outgoing medallist and his Australian captain Steve Smith, and joining some of Australia’s best to ever play the gentleman’s game.

On the podium, he said “I love waking up every day playing for Australia, and I’d never change a thing.” With this kind of recognition, he probably won’t have to; the Medal adds to his Player of the Series award for his heroics vs New Zealand in last year’s Trans-Tasman Trophy and speaks to his rock-solid status in Australia’s opening pair.

It’s the first time Warner’s taken out the honour; he narrowly beat out captain Smith, with Mitchell Starc amassing the third highest number of votes.

While Warner also copped the Test Player Of The Year award, The Belinda Clarke Medal for best female international cricketer was awarded to Ellyse Perry, who also captained the Sydney Sixers to a BBL final loss to the Sydney Thunder, while the male Domestic Player Of The Year was awarded to Western Australia’s Adam Voges.

Glenn Maxwell got the nod for ODI Player Of The Year, while Bradman Young Cricketer Of The Year was awarded to Alex Ross.

Go you good things, absolutely cracking stuff.
