Aussie Boomers Make History By Being Included In The Upcoming ‘NBA 2K17’

Good news, sports gamers!

2K Sports is gearing up to unleash their latest instalment of the highly successful and supremely revered NBA 2K series in September, and this morning they dropped a lil treat for all us ‘Strayans.
2K and Basketball Australia announced this morning that the Australian Boomers will feature in the game for the very first time, making history as the only other national team (behind Team USA) to be featured in the hard sports sim.
In the lead up to the Rio Olympics, the Boomers make their official debut in the game; the first of its kind in the history of the franchise that launched back in 1999.
The Boomers’ roster of players features Australia’s best ballers from the NBA, Europe, and Australian leagues, and sports a raft of superstar players who have featured heavily in the past handful of NBA Finals.
Anthony Moore, the CEO of Basketball Australia, stated that they are thrilled to have the Boomers included in the game which has grown into a global phenomenon.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be part of NBA 2K17, the biggest NBA game in the world. We jumped at the chance to have our Australian Boomers in the game and now Australian gamers can take on the world with Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova and Andrew Bogut together in the green and gold.”

Meanwhile, Patty Mills reiterated how keen he was to see the Boomers in the game, noting that playing it has been a favourite pastime for the team whilst in training camp.

“Australian basketball continues to go from strength-to-strength and our players are leaving their mark on leagues around the world. It’s great to see 2K recognising our nation’s growing impact on the sport with the inclusion of Team Australia in NBA 2K17.”

The roster, as included in the game, features the following:

  • David Andersen
  • Cameron Bairstow
  • Aron Baynes
  • Andrew Bogut
  • Ryan Broekhoff
  • Matthew Dellavedova
  • Dante Exum
  • Chris Goulding
  • Joe Ingles
  • Kevin Lisch
  • Damian Martin
  • Patrick Mills
  • Brock Motum
It’s interesting to note that Ben Simmons is not featured in that list, but the recent number one draft pick did undergo face and body scanning to be placed into the game on the Philadelphia 76ers roster.
NBA 2K17 launches locally on September 16th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.
