Anthony Mundine Feels The Wrath Of Social Media Backlash From Anti-Gay Slur

Anthony, pls.

Rounding up this week’s utterly divine series of When Australian Sporting Heroes Make Horrifying Fools Of Themselves, boxing icon and now National Embarrassment Anthony Mundine has jumped on Ryan Stig‘s pre-established bandwagon of unrequited hate in a social media outburst and tirade against homosexuality.

The ever-humble boxer Anthony “I’m the best athlete ever” Mundine yesterday stood atop the insipid soap-box that is his own facebook page and penned this:

How politically incorrect/straight up idiotic is thee, Anthony Mudine? Let me count the ways.

1. Redfern Now is excellent – quit tearing down one of the few unique TV shows Australia has;

2. There’s a difference between “promoting homosexuality” and writing meaningful, diverse and interesting stories for LGBT couples on TV
3. *their
4. I’m beginning to think this whole thing is a joke because Mundine *actually* pulled out the “Adam & Steve” argument and I just can’t

The comments underneath Mundine’s page polarise, ranging from “lol so true!” to “you are the devil” to “wake up and smell the fucken rainbows”. According to the ABC, Rachel Perkins of Blackfella Films (the production company behind Redfern Now) was naturally disturbed by Mundine’s comments. “I’ve known Aboriginal activists throughout the ’60s and ’70s and ’80s and ’90s who fought for the cause of Aboriginal people and they are gay,” Perkins said, “Mundine saying gay people and Aboriginality don’t go together denies all of the identity of those people. It’s insulting to them – it’s inappropriate that he says that.”

Dismantling Mundine’s comments about Redfern Now “promoting” homosexuality, Perkins stated, “He should have more intelligence to see it what it is. It’s a story about people.”

To continue digging his own frighteningly deep hole, Mundine said in an interview with local radio station KOFM on Friday, “I won’t bow to the politically correct notion that it’s OK,”. Naturally the twittersphere detected that a nearby Bullshit Meter was peaking, and expressed their disdain. Anthony Mundine, this is just embarrassing.
