Los Angeles and surrounds continue to burn with multiple uncontained wildfires forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents. Police, fire and rescue workers are out in full force and one arm of those brave men and women, the LAPD, has today shared a poignant message from ground zero.
Taking to Twitter, the LAPD shared this picture of one of their officers decked out in a smoke mask and rescuing a, no-doubt distressed as heck, cat.
For some it might just be a cat. But to others it’s a friend, a loved one, a companion. The #LAPD has a motto, “To Protect and to Serve”, and our officers have been displaying that in many ways during the #CreekFire & #SkirballFire pic.twitter.com/kmyHhvy9Fe

The message accompanying the photo of the unnamed officer has rightfully touched many hearts:

OOOOF. RIGHT IN THE PET LOVING FEELS.
The Tweet has gone fairly viral, which is nice purely just to have something positive going round on Twitter for once tbh. A lot of peeps are sending thanks to the officer, the LAPD, and like, cats in general:
THANK YOU for saving that poor baby who is clearly terrified!!

OMG! I gotta marry that guy!!! XOXOXOX. From a committed cat lover in Northridge. Meow. Melts my heart when I see a cop or world leader holding a cat. (Even Putin)?

That fur baby looks to be in a lot of pain on top of being terrified. God bless the animals who can’t speak up for themselves. ❤💙😻💚💜
