The chief of the LAPD told the New York Times that the fatal shooting of Hussle was believed to be the result of a personal dispute.
Police chief Michael R. Moore said Hussle and two others were standing outside his clothing store on Monday when Holder approached multiple times before shooting at the group.
“Based on witness statements and the background of those that we’ve identified, we believe this to be a dispute between Mr. Hussle and Mr. Holder,” he said.
“We believe they were known to each other.”
Dead at the the age of 33, Grammy Award-nominated Hussle was active in the greater Los Angeles area, only recently meeting with police to talk about ways to help stop gang violence.
His death prompted an impassioned response from those in and out of the music scene, with a focus on the rapper’s positivity and community activism.
