Strike A Pose: Woolworths Confirms New Trial Involving Over 500 Mini Cameras On Aisle Shelves

Woolworths is going full-throttle futuristic mode after it announced that it will be chucking over 500 cameras onto its shelves. Kinda like Big Brother but for the fresh food people.

Recently, Woolies announced that it would be mounting a bunch of mini cameras on its shelves to monitor products and stock levels.

According to 9News, the trial — which will only be done at Wetherill Park Woolworths branch — will see more than 500 cameras across the store. All the cameras will be placed adjacent to price tags and will capture photos every hour.

The mini cameras will allow staff to access the information they need when it comes to replenishing their shelves and stocking items.

“We’ve recently begun a trial of new camera technology at the store to assist our teams by reducing manual processes and with replenishment tasks, such as real-time inventory management and restocking prioritisation,” a Woolworths spokesperson said, per the publication.

“This is expected to improve product availability throughout the day for all our customers, not just at regular intervals.

“We’ll listen to feedback from our Wetherill Park customers and team members over the coming months before assessing our next steps.”

The mini cameras will be placed in every single aisle, including the fridge, freezer and fresh produce section.

And Woolies, if you’re reading this, please place at least 50 cameras in the dog food aisle ‘cos I swear to God, every time I go for my grocery shop my dog food brand is out.

Although you’d think that these cameras would aid in loss prevention, like those cameras at the self-check-out counters, according to Woolies, customers who get caught in the photos will be “silhouetted” out of the snaps.

Kinda like how Next Top Model fades out their eliminated contestant after each episode … or maybe not.

Signs will also be placed out the front of the Wetherill Park branch to inform customers of the trial.

Okay, so maybe it’s not exactly Big Brother: Fresh Food People Edition but it’ll be interesting to see if this trial rolls out to other branches.
