WATCH: ScarJo Breathes Pure Menace In The 1st ‘Ghost In The Shell’ Teasers

Look, there is absolutely a lot to be said about Hollywood’s upcoming live-action remake of anime classic ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ and all the whitewashing therein. That is one-hundred percent a discussion that should probably be had at some point.
However, until such time as it actually gets released and we can all see the dang thing in full for ourselves, it’s an argument that is, for the moment, kinda incomplete.
With that said, the first teasers for the film have arrived, and aside from the Johansson-factor, it looks brooding, sparse, and at least stylistically true to the hugely beloved OG manga series.
Director Rupert Sanders (who previously worked on ‘Snow White and the Hunstman‘) has definitely been up against it trying to bring Masamune Shirow‘s sci-fi masterpiece to life, one that makes the dystopian wonderland of ‘Blade Runner‘ look like a children’s playground.
But these five extremely brief glimpses into the film offer, at the very least, a pretty promising look at what’s to come; enough evidence to keep expectations reasonably high.

The film, which also stars Pilou Asbæk, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, Chin Han, Lasarus Ratuere, and Juliette Binoche, is working off a script from Jonathan Herman (‘Straight Outta Compton‘) and Jamie Moss (‘Street Kings,’ ‘Spectral‘)
It’s scheduled to hit screens on March 31st, 2017.
