WATCH: Look How Happy This Lil’ Pupper Is With His New Prosthetic Legs

Fair warning to you all: this writer nearly sobbed multiple times while trying to write this story.

*deep breath*

A puppy whose legs were hacked off with a sword has been fitted for two new prosthetic legs, and we don’t mean to oversell it here, but this video will give you life.

Cola was nine-months-old when a neighbour attacked him with a sword for chewing a pair of shoes. According to the Soi Dog Foundation, Thailand‘s largest welfare group and the ones responsible for Cola’s treatment, Cola’s owner apologised for her puppy and paid her neighbour compensation, but that night he broke into her property and hacked Cola’s legs off.

According to the foundation, one was hanging by a thread, the other completely severed.

Then the attacker – just to be even more of a despicable fuckwit than he already was – threatened to murder the owner’s other dogs if she complained.

The good news is that she DID complain, the he was prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act and sentenced to one month imprisonment. (Yes, this is an extremely short sentence, but as the Soi Dog Foundation points out, Thailand only brought it its first animal welfare law in late 2014, and if this crime had been committed even two years ago, he wouldn’t have been prosecuted.)
Cola, suffering extreme blood loss and on the brink of death, was taken to a specialist clinic in Bangkok for treatment.
He was eventually fitted with a pair of prosthetic legs, and the video of this magical moment has gone viral for obvious + heart-warming reasons.
And… look, prepare yourselves, guys… this one’s a bloody doozy.

Like, JUST LOOK HOW HAPPY HE IS:

We’re crying, you’re crying, etc etc. No use hiding it.

This all took place a few months ago, but the video has only gone up this week. In the end, Cola’s owner was too afraid of her neighbour to take him back, so he now lives with the foundation’s co-founder Gill – who herself uses prosthetics after losing both legs while saving a dog in 2004 – and her husband John.

Cola now enjoys “the comforts of a loving home and walks on the beach.”

We repeat: LOOK HOW HAPPY THIS LIL PUPPER IS.

Run free, lil’ pupper <3.
