Eight men have been arrested and charged after a boat containing the substance was intercepted off the coast of Geraldton, about 400km north of Perth, following a joint investigation by The Australian Federal Police and the WA Joint Organised Crime Task Force.

Six of the men arrested were charged with importing commercial quantities of border-controlled drugs suspected of being unlawfully imported, with two more set to front Perth magistrates court today. All eight men are Australian citizens and face maximum sentences of life in prison.
The seizure is officially the largest in Australia’s history, topping a 800kg haul of meth (known as the drug ice) by the AFP in Melbourne earlier this year.
