Transgender woman Stephanie McCarthy, who was assaulted in Newtown on June 6, suffering heavy bruising to her face, appeared in Newtown Local Court yesterday over the incident, where she was reportedly threatened by her alleged attackers.
Threatened 4 times today at court by offenders and friends, complete with throat slitting motions. No justice for trans folks it seems.

Nine News reports that McCarthy confronted one of her alleged attackers outside of Newtown local court, Alexis Ozanne, who made a throat-slitting gesture towards her. McCarthy told reporters, “He said ‘see you real soon’.”
McCarthy’s alleged attackers both pleaded not guilty yesterday, and are on bail. Alexis Ozanne will return to court later this month, while second alleged attacker Nicholas Wells will return to court next month, according to Nine News.
On Twitter yesterday, Stephanie McCarthy criticised how the aftermath of her attack has ensued, and described the period since her attack as “the worst five weeks of my life.”
This has been the worst 5 weeks of my life. And for what? So some pathetic little men can show how tough they are by king hitting a stranger

If I was a rich, young guy from Mosman who got king hit, where do you think the offenders would be right now? Not out on bail that’s certain

I guess I know what it’s like to be fucked in public now. Thanks N.S.W. court system.

Trans woman gets king hit in a hate crime, offender gets to leave the state on bail to work. Quality justice. Trans lives don’t matter.

On Twitter, McCarthy also encouraged her supporters to view an article and photos obtained by the Daily Mail of Alexis Ozanne, saying, “I want EVERYONE to see this guy’s face.“
Last month, McCarthy claimed Sydney’s lockout laws were making areas such as Newtown unsafe – pushing punters out of the city and into inner city locales free of late night lockouts. McCarthy said some who came to Newtown on Friday and Saturday nights are “just here to bash people.”
