The Man Who Bashed Transgender Musician Stephanie McCarthy Has Walked Free

One of the men who assaulted transgender woman and musician Stephanie McCarthy at The Town Hall Hotel in Newtown has walked free.

The 22-year-old man, Alexis Ozanne, began his assault on punk musician McCarthy in the smoking area of the pub at around 3am on a Sunday night in June. When McCarthy confronted the man – court documents said she ‘prodded’ him and his co-accused, Nicholas Wells – Ozanne punched her and knocked her over.
“Ms McCarthy walked a few metres away, armed herself with a plastic schooner glass and charged towards both males,” court documents state.
Wells then grabbed McCarthy, and put her in a headlock with Ozanne hit her in the head five times.
According to court documents, Wells yelled the following statements at McCarthy:

“We’re going to stab you, you faggot. I’ll kick your faggot fucking teeth down your throat.”
Ozanne was warned in court today that he was close to being jailed, but instead only received community service, and a good behaviour bond.
While there’s many things we could say about how disgustingly disappointing, horrifying and scary this is, Stephanie McCarthy has done it for us:
Especially since, according to her, the police never took a Victim Impact Statement from her, and did not even bother to let her know that Ozanne was being sentenced today:
