Sydney Homicide Detectives Fly To Byron Bay To Assist With Theo Hayez Investigation

Sydney homicide detectives have reportedly flown to Byron Bay to assist local police in investigating the disappearance of 18-year-old Belgian backpacker Theo Hayez.

Theo was last seen on CCTV around 11.15pm on Friday May 31, walking down a street towards his hostel, Wake Up!, but he never made it home. Despite an extensive land and air search of surrounding bushland and beach areas, Theo is still unaccounted for 17 days later.

His phone and bank cards have not been used since May 31, although his phone “pinged” in the Cape Byron area in the early hours of June 1.

According to 9 News his father, Lehore Hayez, has made the journey to Australia and has been assisting in the search for his son. It’s expected he will make a public appeal for information today.

Theo’s cousin Lisa Hayez, who had been travelling with Theo, has been tirelessly working to find her cousin, door knocking and putting up “missing” posters around Byron Bay.

Theo is described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 180cm-190cm tall, with fair hair, a slim build and wearing a black hoodie and beige pants at the time of his disappearance.
