According to The Australiantwo cadaver dogs trained to detect human remains have been brought in from Sydney.

Hayez was last seen at 11.17pm on May 31 at the Cheeky Monkey bar on Jonson Street in Byron.

Staff at the WakeUp! hostel reported his disappearance on June 6.

The volunteer group has searched the area around Cape Byron Lighthouse, where the last “ping” from Hayez’s phone was recorded on June 1.

On July 3, NSW Police officially suspended the search for Hayez after extensive efforts from SES volunteers, the NSW Surf Lifesaving group, and the local community.

At the time, Tweed / Byron Bay Police District Superintendent Dave Roptell thanked each and every person who assisted and who provided support.

Throughout the entire investigation we have been liaising with the Belgian Federal Police, keeping them informed of our progress and work collaboratively with them. Belgian authorities have been appreciative of the work being undertaken.

Roptell said he had met with Hayez’s family prior to the official announcement and sent their thoughts to the family in Australia and abroad.

Hayez had been on an eight-month backpacking trip around Australia when he disappeared.
