The Schapelle Corby Biopic Unveils Its Cast

The biopic that nobody asked for has unveiled its cast, revealing the actors who will be dutifully playing the roles in Australia’s most hotly contested scandal surrounding the polarising, accused criminal and alleged drug mule Schapelle Corby.

Titled Schapelle, Channel 9 has been keeping the project under wraps until today, as the Sydney Morning Herald announces their casting choices. Based on Eamon Duff’s book, Sins of the Father: The untold story behind Schapelle Corby’s ill-fated drug run, Schapelle Corby will be portrayed by the relatively unknown Krew Boylan, whose likeness to the 36 year old isn’t too distant; Aussie acting veteran Vince Colosimo will play Corby’s former lawyer, while Colin Friels and Denise Roberts will portray Schapelle Corby’s parents.

The casting choice of Boylan, and the project more generally, has been passionately disparaged by Corby supporters, most notably the group Women For Schapelle.  Posting on their blog and facebook page, the group announced: “Krew Boylan prostitutes her talents: smearing the innocent and protecting dangerous corruption at Australian airports” while taking down the validity of the story that will be presented on screen. In any case, Channel 9’s project may well be pitting against Channel 7’s own miniseries, a much more promising, expertly cast and genuinely anticipated biopic based around INXS. Let the emotional biopic wars ensue.

And because you haven’t heard of her, here is Krew Boylan, soon to be household name and future portrayer of Schapelle Corby.
