Sydney’s Hosting Beer Yoga This Weekend So Sink Some Downward Frothdogs

I love beer. I just love beer so much. Few things make me happier than the thought of just sitting down, staring into space and knocking back a beer. Beer is the juice that fuels my life.
I also love yoga, but in a very different way. I love the idea of yoga. I’ve thought about doing yoga probably once a week since 2008. I have never done yoga. Could I stand to be a bit more flexible? God, yes. Could I do with a little more muscle tone? Sure. Will I start doing yoga of my own volition? Very likely no.
It’s intimidating – people who do yoga are all sort of… well, yoga-y. They are the sort of people you’d expect to do yoga who are already very good at yoga. I’m the sort of person who likes to drink beers – will there ever be yoga for me?
The answer to that rhetorical question is: yes. It’s called BierYoga (if you didn’t guess, it’s German for BeerYoga) and it’s yoga, with beers, and it’s coming to Sydney this weekend.
BierYoga is visiting from Germany and it sounds like they take this stuff pretty seriously:
“BeerYoga is the marriage of two great loves – beer and yoga. Both are centuries-old therapies for body, mind and soul. The joy of drinking beer and the mindfulness of yoga compliment each other, and make for an energizing experience.

“BeerYoga is fun but it’s no joke – we take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness.”

The deal is you pay $10 for entry then pay at the bar for your one or two beers, which you don’t just drink throughout but also incorporate into your poses.

If that sounds exactly like your jam, there’ll be two sessions in Sydney this weekend, both at The Sheaf in Double Bay, one at 6pm on Friday and one at 2pm on Sunday. You can check out more details here.
