Oi Sydney, Prep To Sweat More Than QLD ‘Cos Today Is Hitting 32 Degrees

Full disclosure: the author of this piece is currently situated in Melbourne. At time of writing, it is a cool 14C, with the sun muted by some largely inoffensive clouds. All of this is to say it’s looking pretty okay over here, and a projected high of 18C this afternoon seems perfectly tolerable.

You folks in Sydney, though? Prepare to sweat, ’cause today is legitimately going to be warmer in your town than across much of Queensland.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting the mercury to rise as high as 32C today, a full 12 degrees warmer than average Sydney temperatures for September.

That’s also a fair bit warmer than Brisbane’s predicted high for the day.

Even Cairns, a city not exactly immune to dank conditions, is predicted to be cooler than the NSW capital.

However, large swathes of the Goldfields, Gulf regions, and the western portion of the state will eclipse Sydney’s temperature. The BOM predicts Darwin will be 32C, too.

A total fire ban has been issued for residents of Sydney, along with those in the Greater Hunter, North Coast, and North Western fire areas. The upcoming fire season is looking fairly grim too, after NSW recorded some of the lowest winter rainfall in 15 years.

Stay cool, stay safe, and prep for a mighty sunny summer to come.
