SURPRISE! Kendrick Lamar Does A Yoncé, Drops New Album

Grammy-winning artist Kendrick Lamar just dropped a shock new album Untitled Unmastered via an iTunes link on his Twitter, to legions of unworthy fans.

The album was teased on Spotify earlier today in the US, with the title and tracklist appearing on the service in unplayable form. So either Kendrick was playing with us, or a Spotify employee is about to receive a stern lesson in which button is which in the content management system.

The iTunes release description calls this album a “hypnotic, nuanced nod to hip-hop’s deep roots,” featuring “Funkadelic inspired grooves”. Hell yeah.

Early speculation suggested the release might be a collection of cut tracks from the To Pimp A Butterfly sessions, but we’ll await final word – this sounds like a different beast altogether. But Kendrick has suggested in previous interviews that those sessions produced some cuts he was “in love with” that didn’t make the final album.
As you might imagine, Twitter promptly lost its shit.

Unfortunately for us down under, the album isn’t quite ready for Australia – it’s not available on Apple Music or Spotify just yet. Join us in hammering the refresh button until we are blessed.
