Shaun McNeil Sentenced To 10 Years For One-Punch Killing Of Daniel Christie

Shaun McNeil has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the manslaughter of Daniel Christie on New Year’s Eve, 2013.

He’ll serve a minimum of 7.5 years behind bars, and a maximum of 10 years.

McNeil delivered a fatal one-punch blow to Christie during the 2013 NYE in King’s Cross, causing the 18-year-old to hit his head on the pavement. Christie died in hospital 11 days later.

McNeil was not remorseful over Christie’s death, according to Justice Hulme.

I am not persuaded he is remorseful on the basis of this letter,” Channel 9 court reporter Kelly Fedor reported Justice Hulme as saying, although that he was prepared to find him sorry, “based on immediate acceptance of wrongdoing and conduct since.”

Daniel’s family was front and centre to hear the sentencing.

In June, McNeil was found guilty of manslaughter, rather than the more serious charge of murder. A jury took four hours to decide on the verdict. McNeil cried with relief when the verdict was handed down.
