As the saying goes: life is what happens when you’re busy making memes.
While the rest of us were readily frothing over Salt Bae – a.k.a. Turkish restauranteur Nusret Gökçe – he was busy making plans to expand his Nusr-et chain of grill-houses internationally.
Gökçe told Turkish newspaper Hürriyet Daily News that he’ll be opening branches in New York City and London in the next few months.
Now. We choose to believe there is only *ONE* possible meaning here, and that is that, at last, somebody has managed to make bank out of being memed.
“Actually that move at the end [salting] came automatically,” he said. “I did not do that to show off. It is just my signature. You can think of it a kind of final touch for a painting. It was a final touch to the meat; I was blessing the meat.”
Ahead of his international expansions, Gökçe said that he didn’t know any foreign languages, but that he “could communicate with people through meat.”
“People see me as uncouth. I am the son of a mine worker. My father and mother do not know literacy. I cannot go to school due to financial difficulties. I started to working at a butcher as an apprentice when I was 14. Meat has become a passion for me.”
