QLD Woman Charged After Trying To Enter Court W/ A Fifty Of Weed In Handbag

In Queensland news that shouldn’t be surprising but still definitely is, a Toowoomba woman was caught in the nigh-inexplicable position of having a not insignificant amount of weed in her handbag while attending court last month.
Apparently 39-year-old Jodie Leigh Palmer underwent a routine search upon entering the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on January 13, during which a security guard found 6.9g of “green leafy material“.
When the cops showed up and asked her what said material was, she told them it was marijuana.
She pleaded guilty today to possessing the drug, in the very same court at which she was initially busted. Her lawyer told the court that Palmer was in the process of getting a blue card (presumably to work with children), and that a conviction would damage her ability to obtain the card and further employment.
The court agreed, and Palmer got off with a $300 fine.
Okay, that’s good; it’s good that she’s not going to jail for carrying around a bit of pot. But also, there are a lot of questions that this raises, right? Like I can think of, absolute minimum, at least three pressing queries: 1) Why was she going to court in the first place? 2) Why did she take $50 worth of weed to court with her? and 3) How did she expect to not get caught?
What kind of cowboy operation are you running up there, Toowoomba?!
