There’s a very simple set of laws for determining how much the internet will latch on to an animal.
- Is it a dog or a cat?
Nice one, you’ve probably got a winner there. - Are they especially friendly?
Bonus points for you, friendo. - Is your furry friend a stray, or in need of adoption?
Well, basically nothing rallies the masses like an animal in distress. - Does said animal tick all of those boxes, while having an extremely rare medical condition?
Congratulations, your pet might just be the focal point of thousands of love-struck internet denizens.
What kind of doggo might fit those criteria?
One like Quasimodo, the four-year-old German Shepherd, who has very recently made his way to a shelter in Missouri. As far as the “rare condition” thing goes, our mate kinda sorta doesn’t really have a neck. At all.

Well, not in the normal place, at least. Quasi, for short, has been diagnosed with the aptly titled Short Spine Syndrome, and he joins only 12 other pooches worldwide with the condition.
“We just hope we can keep him comfortable and happy and find a great forever home for him.”
After arriving at the Secondhand Hounds shelter late last week, a Facebook page detailing his progress has amassed over 25,000 followers, some of whom are dead keen on taking the neckless pooch home with them.
Quasi is not sold on this bath thing.
