Prepare To Be Shocked: Diversity In Hollywood Hasn’t Improved In A Decade

Bad news everybody! A study from Southern Cali has confirmed that representation of women, people with disabilities and the LGBTQIA+ community is fkd in Hollywood (if you didn’t already know).

What’s more, things apparently aren’t even getting better.
No, sadly.

Looking at the top 100 films each year from 2007-2015, the number of women in speaking roles has stayed level, at a mere third of the total parts. Roles for women are also 3x more likely to be sexualised in some way.
LGBT characters still make up less than 1% of all roles, and people of colour aren’t any better represented in Hollywood than they were in the last decade. Also, a mere 2.4% of speaking characters in a film have a disability, and of those roles, 81% go to men.
Faaaark mate.
So after all of the awareness campaigns, hot takes, and righteously righteous indignation, things are roughly as horrible as they were ten years ago. Sorry to wreck your Friday, everybody.
