Peek Inside England’s Teeniest Castle & Pretend You Rule A Tiny Kingdom

Ok, before we get stuck in, I’ve gotta ask… How do you pronounce castle?!

Is it cassel or is it cahhhstle?

Does anyone know? Will we ever truly be certain? Does God exist?

Linguistics and existential crises aside, the smallest castle in the United Kingdom is up for sale and it is too cute to handle.

It’s called Molly’s Lodge, and it’s basically a regular castle but 5% of the size. Sitting pretty on a 0.61 acre plot of land near the village of Long Compton in Warwickshire, the property was once a gatehouse for the Weston Park Estate (a regular-sized castle) on the northern edge of the Cotswolds countryside.

Built by famous British architect Edward Blore in the 1830s, the one-bedroom palace is Grade II listed, meaning it will be preserved for eternity.

In addition to the single bedroom, the quaint little residence features a bathroom (essential), a living room, a cast-iron spiral staircase and a dining room with a Victorian fireplace.

The kitchen has been lovingly renovated and boasts all the mod cons while staying true to its country manor roots:

High ceilings, exposed beams, hardwood floors and decorative windows adorn the generously-sized single bedroom:

The living room is charming and cosy, with a classic Victorian fireplace encased in a boss brick mantle:

And no castle, regardless of size, would be complete without a classic English garden, complete with hedges and rolling green grass. They’ve got a chicken run and some veggie patches as well, so you never have to leave. You could set up your own province here and call yourself a Prince(ss). Sure, there’s no moat but the idyllic pond will do:

The house came on the market earlier this year for around AUD$890,000, complete with stables which have been converted into a double garage, bedroom and office space:

Don’t know about you but… BRB selling all my possessions and moving in.

Has this yarn got you craving more castle-heavy content? You can experience it first hand on Contiki‘s England & Scotland trip. It’s a 9-day sojourn through Great Britain where you’ll wander through cobblestone streets, cruise along Loch Ness and eat your bodyweight in Yorkshire pudding. There’ll be plenty of chances to explore the area’s incredible architecture, too.
