OI NSW SHITBOX DRIVERS: Green Slip Relief Is Apparently On Its Way

One of the roughest things about living in New South Wales is the high cost of your green slip when you’re paying car rego. The compulsory third party insurance usually sets you back at least $600, and we’ve all been in a place where your little shitbox barely passes the pink slip test and then you’re slugged for a few week’s rent to keep the old girl on the road.

In fact, the NSW scheme is the least affordable in the country, as your interstate mates have surely pointed out to you at some point (“Aw mate, seriously In WA I only pay like five bucks plus whatever snacks I have in my pocket at the time!“)
Well, ya might be getting some relief at the insurance bowser soon. A recent report recommended that measures be taken to reduce the cost of a green slip, and it looks like it’s happenin’.
Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Victor Dominello will today announce reforms intended to bring that cost down a smidge – which will be achieved by reducing the lump sum payouts for minor claims like whiplash. Bigger payments will be reserved for more serious incidents.
Who knows how much it’ll help – but it’ll be nice to pay a lil less to keep your dad’s 1993 Commodore on the road.
