NSW Police Try Being Cute With ‘Superhero’ Campaign, Everyone Drags It

So you’re running the social media account of a state police force. One that’s taking a leading role in enforcing the highly restrictive and very controversial lockout laws that are the subject of much debate, even to the point where it’s now being claimed that they’ve turned the city into a ghost town.

A few days ago, a bunch of your patrolling police popped into a restaurant to have a go at their wine blackboard, claiming it was promoting unsavoury behaviour.
The directive comes down from above: “Get us some good will back!” “Use the social medias.” “Appeal to the kids.” “Make ’em love us again!”

You rack your brains a bit, but the idea isn’t immediately forthcoming. But then, late one night, it hits you. Of course! Why didn’t you think of this sooner! The answer is so simple!
A SUPERHERO. Use the police force (an authoritative and highly regulated power) and turn them into a superhero (a rogue sole avenger-type who usually operates outside of the letter of the law).
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

Sydney is getting a new hero….

Everything. Everything could go wrong.
What feels like the entire Internet went in on the poor sod operating the NSW Police Facebook page, after this rather ill-timed promotion went live yesterday.
The greatest hits of the public’s sentiment were savage.
Yikes.
For future reference, maybe steering into the skid is far more worth your time. I mean, to be loved, you have to be nice to people. Every day! But to be hated, you don’t have to do squat!
That, or just, y’know… Listen to the research.
