Melbs Says “Yeah Nah” To OG Bike Bells, Crowdfunds $1M For Weird New Design

If this million-dollar Kickstarter campaign is anything to go by, being somewhat annoyed at boring and ubiquitous bicycle accessories is a license to print money – and inadvertently make the most progress in Australian cycling culture since Nicole Kidman’s turn in BMX Bandits.

Yeah, that happened.

The boffins at Aussie firm Knog hit that seven-figure milestone today for their radical take on the humble ol’ bicycle bell. Fair warning, even if you’re not a pedal-pusher, you might be inclined to drop some coin on one of their cutely-titled, snazzily-designed Oi bells.

Instead of striking a metal dome that hangs off ya handlebars, the thing wraps around ’em in a way that really makes quite a lot more sense. Observe:

According to The Agethe project was only looking for a cool $20K in the beginning, after the company obviously misjudged the public’s desire for modern noise-makers.

The Melbourne company’s co-founder Hugo Davidson said the flood of funding will be used to spruik the things and develop them further after they drop to anxious backers in July.

Until then, you can keep yourself content by replaying their dulcet tones just below. Fuck yeah, good design!
