It’s been just about a week since the Royal Wedding took place between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and in the days following, Kensington Palace have slowly been feeding us little bits of post-wedding details. One of these is the Duchess of Sussex’s Coat of Arms.
Kensington Palace’s twitter unleashed the coat of arms upon the world yesterday so if you’re feeling a little pinch of royal withdrawals then get a load of all this symbolism. (And prepare to learn things you didn’t know existed.)
The coat of arms is traditionally given to the father of the bride just before the royal wedding but since that entire week was a bloody ride and a half, a decision was made to bestow the gift to the Duchess herself.
Following on with the Great Markle Family Saga of 2018, Meghan’s coat of arms is void of any family symbolism but well, you can’t blame her for it.

According to the palace, Meghan worked closely alongside the College of Arms so the design is both personal and representative.
Every little detail has a meaning like the blue background of the shield which represents the Pacific Ocean of the Californian Coast AKA Meghan’s home state. The poppies on the grass represent California’s state flower while the wintersweets are the flowers which grow at Kensington Palace.
Cast your minds back to the ~ Instrument of Consent ~, the fancy parchment the Queen signed in order for the wedding to officially happen, and you’ll remember the golden poppies were also included in its design.
There are also two Supporters on either side of the shield. Meghan’s Supporter is the songbird, which combined with the quills on the shield, represent communication.

Earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first public appearance as a married couple at Prince Charles’ 70th Birthday celebration at Buckingham Palace.
Prince Harry gave a speech and got nipped by a bee and Meghan had a right ol’ chuckle:
