This 7 Y.O. Found A Sword In The ‘Excalibur’ Lake So All Hail Queen Matilda

A precocious young girl in the UK has discovered a 1.2m sword in the pond fabled to be the resting place of King Arthur’s legendary Excalibur, and if you think this should make her the next Queen of England, you are absolutely correct.

Matilda Jones, 7, took a dip in Cornwall’s Dozmary Pool when she found the rusty blade lying at on the pond’s floor. Speaking to The Star, her dad Paul Jones said he initially didn’t believe the youngster until he saw the weapon for himself.

Yet there it was, a big ol’ sword, ready to be wielded by the worthy and true. In this case, young Matilda Jones. Images of her and the thing are excellent, and prove her legitimacy as the next divinely-ordained leader of the Britons.

Paul Jones was somewhat less inclined to believe the sword was actually the same one from English folklore, but instead a mused that it could be a film prop from within the past 30 years.

FWIW, legend has it that Dozmary Pond was the spot where King Arthur was first handed Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake. It’s also where he ordered it returned in his dying moments. We could run through the full legend of King Arthur and his anointed ascension to the throne, but it’s probably best we leave the details up to the experts:

TL;DR a seven-year-old will soon be popping up on our currency. All hail Queen Matilda.
