Video has emerged of the moment a staffer at Sydney’s Gay And Lesbian Mardi Gras told members of No Pride In Detention’s float if they harassed Bill Shorten during the march, then they’re “not in the fucking parade.”
The video also shows the group being told “if you can’t act like normal human beings, all in the parade together, you’re out. You’re finished.”
The clip, posted to NPID’s YouTube channel, appears to back up claims by the group’s organisers Evan Gray that a parade producer aggressively relayed Rainbow Labor’s concerns the activist group would be liable to harangue Shorten, Tanya Plibersek, and Anthony Albanese.
While NPID was originally slated to march immediately behind Rainbow Labor, their position was later amended to provide distance between the two groups. Both parties were eventually able to take part in the parade without incident.
