iOS 9 Update Leads To Crashes, Data Blowouts, Sluggish Phones, Sad Faces

Apple‘s new iOS 9 arrived this week, and as is to be expected with the infancy of any new operating system, there’s going to be a lot of teething trouble.

Numerous disgruntled iPhone users have taken to social media to express their anger, complaining of issues from shitty font to crashed phones, sluggish performance and massive amounts of data being chewed up from their plans.
Behold, a brief sampling of said disgruntled Tweets, without which no blog post such as this would be complete:

The issues, it seems, are particularly impacting older iPhone models – y’know, the same older iPhone models that Apple specifically promised would benefit from better performance after an iOS update
Brisbane IS&T professional Jesse, who has an iPhone 5, has been catching hell since upgrading to the new iOS. He told us:
“I normally hold off, but for some stupid reason I felt motivated to update when I read about it yesterday. It feels like my phone has been really sluggish ever since. I tried a few tweaks to get it back to normal but it still feels maybe 20% less responsive. I’m normally pretty good with closing stuff that runs in the background too. Personally, I’m confident it’s part of the Apple conspiracy to make me buy a new phone …”
In an effort to find out what the bloody hell is going on, we decided to track down someone with more technical knowledge than ours, and spoke to Sydney app developer April* to find out what the bloody hell is actually going on.
She told us:
“This is something that happens from time to time – it’s happened with previous iOS updates as well. It often happens when you update through your computer, you might see a box pop up asking if you want to transfer your purchased apps, and it tries to put all those apps back on the phone, even the ones you had deleted, before it does anything else.”

“Basically, your phone can’t figure out what it should be doing first, so it’s cracking through your data. All the issues that people are having are part and parcel with an iOS update. Your phone’s trying to do too many things at once, and it gets overwhelmed. It can’t physically figure out what the fuck it’s supposed to be doing, so it turns off.”
Don’t throw your phone out the window just yet, though, as help will likely be on the way soon in the form of patches and updates. April assures us:
“It will fix itself over time, Apple will release bug fixes if the problem is something to do with the actual software itself, so there’s no need to panic at all.”
Reportedly, more than 16% of iPhone users have already upgraded to the new software. Apple have not officially commented on the latest round of issues, but one Australian Apple Store customer was promised that engineers are “working 24/7” to iron out the glitches.
